The Story Behind

‘A New Memory’ already reveals in its title what this piece is about: the creation of a new memory. Our lives are made up entirely of memories. Everything happening right now has already become part of the past before we even have time to fully reflect on it. I find it difficult to truly live in the present, as my mind is often one or two months ahead.

Now that I have a toddler and see how quickly he is growing, it feels even more important to consciously enjoy the present moment. By that, I mean making memories together. The kind of memories that are usually created when you truly spend time together, not while cooking, doing laundry, or vacuuming the house.

I painted this work during a particularly busy week, a week in which there was little time to create those meaningful moments. But I still tried my best to make space for them.
